LIVING WITH A BENGAL

Getting any pet is a big decision and one you need to really think about before making them part of your family.

Temperament

  • Bengals sometimes have a reputation for bad behaviour, but this is often a result of them not being raised correctly or when their needs are not met or understood. You will find our bengals are the most loving and affectionate bunch! We put a lot of work into making sure they are fully socialised, played with daily and live with us in the family home.

  • Bengals are keen climbers and like to explore. This can be chaotic if your home is not adjusted properly. You will need to cat-proof your home; we will provide you with all the advice and guidance you need.

  • Bengals love to be part of the family. They will sit with you, sleep with you and follow you around the house! But they also need a space they can call their own when they need a bit of 'me time'.

  • They are very chatty (in a cute way!) and will tell you what they want, when they're happy or frustrated.

  • Investing in a cat tree is a perfect way to give your bengal its own space while giving it the opportunity of climbing.

Your Lifestyle

  • While each personality is different, bengals in general love the company of others. If you leave your home alone for long periods of time each day then a bengal may not be the pet for you. â€‹

  • Bengals tend to get on great with children. All of our bengals are properly socialised before they come home to you, so will appreciate any sort of company and playmates!

  • If you are not always at home then a second pet is a great choice - this could be a second bengal or large cat, or even another dog...any pet that can match a bengal's energy! That said, this is still not an option if you are at work all-day-every-day.

Exercise

  • Bengals are active cats. Again, personalities vary across the breed and some like laying around more than others, but it is important to ensure your bengal gets daily exercise. There are a number of ways to achieve this:

    • Buy a cat wheel - all of our bengals are cat-wheel trained

    • A second pet (like a bengal or a dog) will keep them entertained for hours!

    • Any toys that bring out their predator side

    • Take them on a walk on a harness - all of our bengals are harness trained

    • A secure garden they can play in (be careful - they are very good at finding an escape route!) - Catios are a great option to provide your cat with secure playtime on a daily basis.

  • We do not advise letting your bengals roam freely for a number of reasons, but ultimately this your decision. An indoor bengal with the right amount of attention and exercise will live a happy life and likely outlive its outdoor counterpart!

Health

  • We have a number of genetic and screening processes in place to ensure we provide healthy bengals.

  • Our bengal lines come from all around the world; this improves the Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI), which greatly reduces the likelihood of health issues and defects.

  • That said, there are a number of things you need to consider when buying any pet. These have financial implications so we encourage you to ensure these work with your family and your finances.

    • Diet is important to keep your bengal healthy. There are a number of options that we can discuss with you from fresh food to raw, but cheap commercial cat food is not healthy for your bengal. Please consider the cost of pet food before committing to your new pet.

    • Vet bills are expensive. We would highly recommend having pet insurance in place to avoid costly bills. We will provide you with 4 weeks free insurance when you get your new bengal. â€‹
